The seven sisters, the pliiades, were the 7 daughters of Atlas who held up the earth. The sisters, also named in the stars: Maia, Electra, Alcyone, Taygete, Asterope, Celaeno and Merope. This constellation appears at the beginning of spring, and indicates the coming of new life with the sweet influences that bring warm weather and the growth of the plant as well as the human and animal kingdoms.
